Good questions, plain answers.

What the app does, what stays on your device, and where a preview has limits. For troubleshooting, visit Support.

The preview

Is a hair color try-on accurate?

It accurately shows a color direction on your own photo, with your hair’s texture and lighting kept in place. It can’t predict what dye will do on your hair. That depends on your starting color, past color and treatments, hair condition, the products you use, and technique.

Will my hair really look like the preview?

Think of the preview as a way to decide what you like, not a promise. Bring your favorite previews to a colorist, or follow the product instructions and do a strand test, to find out what’s realistic for your hair.

Which colors can I try?

Sixteen curated shades. Natural: Honey Blonde, Teddy Bronde, Platinum, Chocolate, Espresso, and Jet Black. Trending: Copper, Auburn, Cherry Cola, Burgundy, Silver, and Rose Gold. Bold: Pink, Blue, Purple, and Green. You can also choose any custom color with Apple’s color picker.

Can I see what I’d look like with gray or silver hair?

Yes. Try Silver or Platinum, or pick a custom gray, and adjust the intensity. It can’t show your own natural gray pattern, but it’s a gentle way to see whether you like the idea. See previewing gray hair.

Can it do highlights, balayage, or ombré?

No. The app colors your selected hair in one shade. It’s great for comparing overall directions, but it doesn’t place highlights or blends.

Will it tell me which color suits my skin tone?

No. The app doesn’t analyze your face or recommend shades. It lets you see the options on you, so you can decide what you love.

Does it change my hairstyle or face?

No. Only the color of your hair changes. Your haircut, face, and everything else in the photo stay exactly as they were.

Privacy

Does the app upload my photo?

No. Choosing the photo or video, finding your hair, color previews, corrections, and saving all happen on your iPhone or iPad. The app has no photo-processing server and no account.

Does the app collect any data?

The app uses RevenueCat for purchase reporting and limited onboarding analytics, such as which setup pages were reached. Your photos, videos, colors, and edits are never sent. There are no ads and no ad tracking. Purchases and restores go through Apple’s StoreKit. The privacy policy has the details.

Does the app keep my photos?

No. It doesn’t keep source photos, videos, hair selections, thumbnails, or an editing history. It only writes a new image or video to Photos when you choose to save.

What does saving remove from the copy?

GPS location, the original filename, the camera serial, and other unrelated metadata. Your original is never overwritten. The picture itself can still show your face or surroundings, so look it over before sharing.

Does this website see my photos?

No. This website doesn’t accept uploads. It offers optional Google Analytics only if you allow it, and you can change that anytime with Analytics settings in the footer.

Editing

How do I compare with my original photo?

Tap Natural in the shade row to see your original, then tap your shade again. Pinch to zoom in on your hairline and ends.

Can I fix the hair selection?

Yes, on photos. Open Refine Selection and use Add Hair or Remove Hair with a small, medium, or large brush. Undo single strokes, or tap Reset to Automatic to start over.

What makes automatic selection harder?

Very fine flyaways, see-through ends, hats, strong backlight, low contrast between hair and background, far-away subjects, and several people in the photo. Our photo guide shows what helps.

What does intensity do?

It sets how strongly the new color shows. Lower settings let more of your own color come through, like a softer change; higher settings make the new direction obvious.

Video

Can I change my hair color in a video?

Yes. After unlocking access, choose a video, pick a shade and intensity, and save a new copy. It’s processed on your device. Read how to change hair color in a video.

What’s the difference between Quick and Quality?

Quick saves faster and makes smaller files. Quality refines the hair in every saved frame and takes longer. Both keep the original audio and leave your original video untouched.

Can I use the brushes on a video?

No, the Add Hair and Remove Hair brushes are for photos. For video, an evenly lit clip with less fast motion gives the most consistent result.

Buying and restoring

Can I try it before paying?

Yes. The app is free to download, and setup shows you a shade on your own photo before you choose weekly or lifetime access.

What’s the difference between weekly and lifetime?

Only how you pay. Weekly renews until you cancel; lifetime is a one-time purchase. Both unlock the full editor. The app shows your current price before you confirm. See pricing.

How do I restore a purchase on a new device?

Sign in with the same Apple account, open the app, and tap Restore Purchases on the access screen. Existing yearly subscriptions restore the same way. Restoring may need an internet connection.

How do I cancel?

In Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, and choose Hair Color Changer: Try On. Apple handles all renewals and cancellations.

Devices

Which devices are supported?

iPhone and iPad with iOS or iPadOS 17 or later. iPhone uses portrait orientation; iPad works in any orientation. The App Store also lists the app as compatible with Apple silicon Macs and Apple Vision Pro.

Is there an Android version or a website version?

Not right now. The app is available on the App Store for Apple devices.
